So I’m Blogging Again

I’ve been getting this itch lately, and it’s been an itch to write. I’m not exactly sure why... but I feel it’s usually better to not ask when some artistic inspiration comes along and bugs you. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to write - fiction? I’m not sure that’s a great place to start writing again, honestly. It’s probably something better to build up to, if I’m so inclined, in the future. I updated the Tabletop Minions website to a new system earlier in the year, so I decided to maybe start writing a blog again, since I’d have the place to put it online for people to stumble across.

The issue with blogging - for me - is that it doesn’t come to me as easily as making videos does these days. Sure, videos take longer to shoot and edit and all that, but I’ve been doing that for 13 years at this point. It’s kinda comfortable. But I blogged before I made videos. I actually started blogging back when blogs were invented, because I’m old. My first blog used the original blogger.com before Google bought them. I started my first blog back in the year 2000, and all my friends were blogging, too. Hell - it seemed like everyone was blogging. I also had a separate hobby blog, as well. It was a pretty cool time. Then stuff like Twitter and Facebook and whatnot came along and blogs fell by the wayside.

Nowadays, we all probably realize that much of social media was kind of a bad idea. Letting multibillion-dollar megacorps decide - via nefarious algorithms - what we do and do not get to see from our friends and the people and groups we follow was a bad trade for some convenience and constant bombardmentation with advertising messages and data thievery. So, just as some folks are heading back to older, analog forms of expression (film cameras, vinyl records, etc.) - I’m heading back to blogs, and I’ll give that a try. However, I’m NOT shooting film anymore - I did that back in the 80s and 90s and I don’t want to go back.

What kind of things will I write about? That’s a good question, honestly. There’ll be hobby content, of course - maybe some work-in-progress news and photos for stuff I’m working on - minis and terrain and YouTube and Snarling Badger Studios and all that. But there might also be some “think pieces” - as long as you don’t expect to think too hard, I suppose. I’ll have to figure out how to “tag” the posts so you can pick and choose what kind of stuff you want to read and what you don’t.

One of the big benefits: there aren’t any ads and whatnot, since I pay Squarespace yearly to host the site. If this were a free site like Wordpress or whatever, then there’d usually be ads and data thievery and all that involved. But this will be content with very little expectation other than I enjoy writing it and you - potentially - enjoy reading it. It’ll also not really be on a schedule, either. I’ll make new articles when I can and when I’m inspired.

So, if you’re interested, maybe bookmark this site in your browser of choice (remember bookmarks?) and come by from time to time to check in. Also, you can follow me on Bluesky to get notifications when I post new blogs - they don’t really seem to deploy much of an algorithm so if you follow me there you’ll probably see it, which is nice. Thanks for reading.
